Typhoon Nando has rapidly intensified and was last spotted at 10 a.m., located 775 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour, moving west-northwest at 10 kilometers per hour.
As of now, no tropical cyclone wind signals have been raised, but Signal No. 1 is expected over Northern Luzon and the eastern part of Central Luzon this afternoon. Warnings may reach as high as Signal No. 5 as Nando approaches.
The typhoon is forecast to intensify further and may reach super typhoon category before passing close to or making landfall over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands by Monday afternoon or evening. It may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday morning.
Nando will also enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing heavy rains and strong winds over large parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. A dangerous storm surge exceeding three meters is possible along the coasts of Batanes, Cagayan, and the Ilocos Region.
The public is advised to monitor official updates from PAGASA and avoid sea travel, especially along the eastern seaboards of the country. | BChannel News
