According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Israel’s offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 13,000 children since the war broke out on October 7th last year. Additionally, many children in Gaza now suffer from hunger and malnutrition.
On the 18th, Catherine Russell, executive director of UNICEF, said on the CBS TV program “Face the Nation” that there were “very difficult bureaucratic challenges” to get trucks carrying aid into Gaza.
International criticism of Israel has grown as the number of people killed in the war continues to rise, Gaza is plunged into a famine crisis, and Israel is accused of blocking aid from entering Gaza.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza, under Hamas, stated that Israel’s military attacks caused the displacement of nearly 2.3 million people in the area and the death of more than 31,000 people. Most of Gaza was razed to the ground and plunged into a famine crisis.
A third of children under the age of 2 in northern Gaza are currently severely malnourished, and famine is imminent.
