The iconic international floating library, MV Doulos Hope cruise ship, owned by the German charity group Gute Bücher für Alle, is set to return to Batangas Port on April 16, 2024, after a 17-year hiatus.
The last time MV Doulos Hope anchored in Batangas City was in 2007. After three years, it became a luxury hotel cruise ship in Indonesia. However, a new MV Doulos Hope cruise ship will arrive next week at the city’s port, offering a fresh experience for the locals.
In anticipation of its arrival, MV Doulos Hope expressed excitement in an interview with Balisong Channel – Good Morning Batangas on Monday, April 8, stating their eagerness to allow the Batangueños to experience the new and amazing cruise ship. MV Doulos Hope is recognized as one of the largest floating book fairs in the world and offers an extensive collection of quality books at affordable prices. It also serves as a hub for cultural exchange, featuring a diverse crew from various parts of the world.
One of the highlights of the MV Doulos Hope experience is the opportunity to meet and interact with its diverse crew, which comprises members from over 30 nationalities. Locals and tourists are encouraged to engage with the crew members, learning about their cultures, backgrounds, and experiences during their time on board.
“I think one of the highlights is meeting the crew members. We represent over 30 nationalities, so when you board, please ask them about their experiences and countries of origin,” said Ted Ang, a member of the advance preparation team for Doulos Hope.
In an interview with MV Doulos Hope, they shared with Balisong Channel that they have received numerous inquiries from people interested in volunteering. As a result, they recommend visiting their official Facebook page for further updates. To manage the expected influx of applicants, an advance booking system will be launched starting this Sunday, April 14, 2024, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.

With the debut of this new and improved vessel, MV Doulos Hope offers a smaller yet more refined ship, promising an amazing and unforgettable journey for visitors of all ages. In addition to the book fair, they plan to host a global praise concert on April 22 at the Batangas Coliseum, Batangas City.
The global concert will provide locals with the opportunity to meet and interact with the crew of over 30 people from various corners of the globe. While the experience aboard MV Doulos Hope is inclusive, parental guidance is recommended, and it’s important to note that the ship is not fully accessible to individuals with disabilities due to its structure.
As MV Doulos Hope sets sail once more, it warmly invites local visitors and Filipino volunteers to join their non-profit organization and contribute to this extraordinary voyage of sharing knowledge, help, and hope. | J.A Idanan – B.Channel News Team
